HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support (Paper-based)

This course applies to all persons who may be required to provide an emergency response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. In most states the minimum requirement for a first aider in the workplace is the higher level course HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

Certain workplaces may require additional or specialised training, including childcare and high-risk environments. If you are unsure whether the training product is right for you, please seek advice from the training provider.

On successful completion of this course, students will be eligible for a Statement of Attainment (SOA) for:

Prerequisites

There are no pre-requisites for this course.

Course Requirements

Successful completion of this course requires participants to have the physical ability to respond to an emergency situation where they need to maintain breathing and circulation in an adult, child or infant following cardiac arrest. This includes the requirement for all participants to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Foundation skills are the underpinning communication skills required for participation in the workplace, the community and in adult education and training.

  • Learning – to learn to provide an emergency response.
  • Reading – to use a defibrillator (AED).
  • Writing – to complete documentation such as reports/risk assessments.
  • Oral communication – to call the ambulance and provide a handover.
  • Numeracy – to count the number of compressions and breaths.
  • Digital literacy – to access and navigate online learning environments (where applicable).

All training and assessment materials and equipment will be supplied throughout the course. Students will need to bring a blue or black pen and wear comfortable, casual clothing.

Delivery Modes

5 hours classroom training and assessment

Training and assessment can be adjusted to account for specific workplace requirements and the existing skills andknowledge of the students.

Renewal

First Aid Codes of Practice recommend that refresher training in CPR should be carried out annually and provide basic emergency life support qualifications should be renewed every three years.

Ask your employer about their currency expectations.

Fees and Payments

This course is offered and delivered by your training provider on behalf of Skills Network Australia Pty Ltd. The course fee will be paid direct to your training provider.

This course may be arranged by an employer who can be invoiced for the training. If the student is booking direct, training fees must be paid by the student directly to the third party provider. Course fees and payment terms will be communicated to the booking party (employer or student) prior to enrolment.
